glass-fronted cupboard. At the far end of the hall, there
the beautifully-carved stairway goes to the top floor.

The

books. The furniture is generous and comfortable. Antiques

writing desk, paintings and other art. Green and
beige curtains with a laurel wreath design grace tall windows.

A
guest loo is off the stone-floored hallway that’s between the dining
room and the kitchen. The loo's grey-green walls are
covered with photos, etchings and other art that depict the history of
the house and the community.

The modern kitchen is large enough for everyone to
join in the cooking. It
has modern appliances, but a traditional style. Walls are
coral. A
pine table seats 8 comfortably. Sun streams in through three large
windows that
look out to the courtyard. A guest who had checked out that
morning left
a parting message on the chalk board: “Gone to America to seek a better
life”. We doubt he'll find it.

On
the upstairs landing, there is a beautiful, massive 17th century Irish
oak linen cupboard. The four bedrooms are further upstairs. Each
of the bedrooms is large, luxurious and comfortable. The colors
are
lovely, very Irish. The beds all have Battenburg lace bedcovers.
A yellow bedroom has a king bed that can convert to twin beds. There is an antique armoire, a dressing table, blue carpeting. This bedroom overlooks the cottage courtyard. The large, white-tiled en suite bathroom has a long, deep tub with a hand-held shower and a separate shower cubicle. |

The
cottages have been renovated and furnished with the same attention to
quality, comfort and style as the manor house. The decor is more
casual, as befits a cottage, but the level of care is the same. The
comfortable
sitting rooms each has a working fireplace, stereo, television and
video.
The two larger cottages have especially spacious dining areas and
sitting
rooms, ideal for entertaining.

The spacious bedrooms are all en suite. They
have either a queen bed or a king bed
that can convert to twin beds. The beds have luxurious
blue and cream Irish wool blankets in a windowpane design. They
were
designed by the property owner and they were all made by local weavers
from wool of local sheep. It’s all so nice, so welcoming.

The cottages share a communal laundry room in the
stables.
The
manor house and the four cottages can accommodate 30 people. Many
families take the entire property for reunions and we’ve never heard
anything but raves from them all.
|
|
The property is 5 miles west of Killarney City, but
you’d never know it
when you are at this secluded and peaceful place. It’s just off
the
Ring of Kerry, one of Ireland's most breathtakingly beautiful areas.
