This beautiful, ivy-covered Georgian terraced row house was originally part of Henry VII’s Royal Palace on the River Thames. Nearby is the house of the George III's consort and her Maids of Honour and the place where Elizabeth 1st died in 1603.

It overlooks Richmond Green, one of the finest Georgian squares in London.  It has lovely views of The Green.  It is featured in various guided tours as a fine example of Georgian History.

The 4-story house, a family home, is furnished with antiques, art and the owners collections. Woodwork is painted a fresh white; the gleaming wood floors are covered with richly patterned Oriental rugs. This is a very personal house.

One enters a welcoming hallway on the raised ground floor level.  The hallway leads to the reception rooms, a drawing room and a more casual den or television room.

The drawing room, done in rich, deep red and green, has tall windows that overlook the Green. There is a working fireplace with a French marble mantle.

Wide double doors lead to the den, in the same rich red.  There is comfortable seating, lovely appointments, bookcases, a gas fireplace with a marble mantle, a TV and a VCR.  A large window looks onto the grounds.  A glass door leads to the balcony overlooking the walled garden.

The guest cloak room is on the half landing between the front door and the upstairs bedroom.

The lower ground floor kitchen and adjoining dining room are terrific.  The dining room has direct access from the front of the house via garden steps.  It has a cherry wood and walnut Spanish-style dining table to seat 8 comfortably on 18th Century chairs.  The exposed beamed ceiling and exposed brickwork gives great character to the room.

The kitchen is well-equipped with a large double door American refrigerator with a freezer and ice maker, a hob and range, dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, TV.  A pine Victorian table is perfect for casual dining or as a work area.

It opens onto a delightful, completely private walled garden that is sunny and, with it’s dining table and chairs, perfect for alfresco meals.  There is a small pond and carefully tended plants.  Charming.

The bright master bedroom takes up the entire second floor.  The  decor is French.  The queen bed is covered with a delicately embroidered quilt.  There are built-in wardrobes, an 18th century dresser, a French bookcase, upholstered chairs and an Aubusson rug.  The tall windows have sweeping views across the Green.

The private dressing room has copious wardrobe space.  The light en suite bathroom has a large gilt-framed mirror over a pedestal sink and a claw foot tub with a hand-held shower.  There is also a separate marble shower.  Tall Georgian windows overlook the back garden and a section of the old palace wall which was once part of the palace kitchen garden.

There are 3 more bedrooms on the top floor.  The double bedroom, at the front of the house, has a feint bed, night stands and an antique walnut chest of drawers.  Windows overlook The Green.

The single bedroom has a mahogany bateau bed, and an 18th century chest of drawers and a Victorian nursing chair upholstered in red velvet.  The room overlooks the Green.

A newly decorated bedroom has a Norwegian built-in bed with pullout guest bed. It can easily be changed to twin beds.

A hallway bathroom has a tub with shower over tub.

Across form the house is The Green, a garden square with walking paths.  It was once a jousting ground where knights fought in single combat.  Now it hosts cricket matches throughout the summer.  The house is a 2-minute walk to Richmond Theatre with all its pre West End runs. To the right are two pubs, The Crickets and The Prince of Wales, a café and shops.  In the other direction is Maids of Honour Row where many royals lived.  At the end of this terrace is the Gate house to the Palace and The Wardrobe where Elizabeth I kept her clothes.

While this is a quiet neighborhood, there are many bars and clubs in Richmond.  There are 11 cinimas, and several restaurants within a 2-minute walk of the house.

Richmond Train Station, with fast trains to Waterloo and other London stops, is a short walk from the house.  Boats to Hampton Court Palace can be accessed nearby.  Heathrow is 20 minutes by car.  There is very good proximity to M4, M3, M25 motorways.

This house is not suitable for toddlers as it’s so vertical.  This is a strict non-smoking house.

Heating and electricity are included.  A £ 500 security deposit is due on arrival.  Midweek cleaning is included.

ACCESSIBILITY NOTICE:

As with so many homes of this era, we regret that this house is not appropriate for anyone who has difficulty with stairs.  There is a toilet on the reception level.
