| Accommodates 16 8 bedrooms 5 bathrooms, 2 guest powder rooms Boturich Castle is in 140 acres of pasture and woods on the shores of Loch Lomond. It is a family home (this man’s home really IS his castle!). It was built in 1832, on the ruins of an 8th C. castle. Sir Walter Scott visited Boturich to research the novel “Rob Roy”. |

Enter into a square entry hall with many interesting things hanging about. The owner has been collecting antique pewter tankards, hiking boots, walking sticks for years and these items, and some small watercolors, are on display here. |

Walk straight up some wide stone stairs to a small, bright area that is used as a sitting room. It is a very attractive and cozy space. There is are two comfortable sofas and two easy chairs, a large coffee table, a large oil painting. Wide windows look onto fabulous views of Loch Lomond and the distant shore (on which there are two other castles). We enjoyed tea here, chatting with the affable owners and watching the water and the changing sky. |
|
|
There is a guest powder room off the hall next to the sitting room. Up another half-level is a room that has traditional furniture, aqua walls and fabric, family photos and momentos, a TV and DVD/video player, original art. |

The large, comfortable drawing room has sofas covered in damask, a large fireplace, a baby grand piano, an antique drinks table, ancestors’ portraits hanging on tan walls, antique rugs, a crystal chandelier, many items collected from the owners' travels. It is richly done, but not intimidating. The hallway outside the drawing room has a second piano. We’re not sure why. These owners are having a swell time. The statue that wears a straw hat is another example of their high spirits. |
