is a lovely 4 story period house on an a friendly residential street in
an
established neighborhood. On the outside, this 19th Century house
looks
like all of the others: a white building with a black door and a short
iron fence. But, inside, things are a bit different.

Open
the front door into a long hall that has crisp white woodwork and
charcoal gray walls that are covered with original art, mostly British.
The dining room, on the right, is dramatic and stylish. There is a decorative fireplace with an iron enclosure and built-in shelves that hold pretty glassware. The long table seats 10 comfortably. Interesting art hangs on the white walls, some of it by the artist owner. A tall window looks onto the street. Privacy is provided by wood shutters that are original to the house. |

The
bright, modern kitchen is behind the dining room, at the back of the
house. It is a snazzy
room
that has black marble counter tops, black
tile floors, white
cupboards with black knobs. There is a 5-burner gas cook top, a
wall
oven, a large refrigerator-freezer, a microwave. This is a
cook's
kitchen with an atmosphere in which
to
create great meals. A window overlooks the garden at
the back of the house.
Down a hallway, a guest powder room is tucked under the stairs. It has the same rich charcoal walls and white fixtures - and more art on the walls. |

Across from the powder room, a door opens onto the patio garden that is lush, green and private. It has an elevated wood deck with a teak dining table and chairs for 6. A small space heater allows you to dine here even when it's chilly. Down 3 steps from the deck is a “sun corner” that captures every bit of sun. It has a built-in bench and cushions for comfort. A small brick area has plants and bushes. A wood trellis is covered with flowering vines. In season, here are many flowering plants, jasmine and lilies, all with wonderful scents. | ![]() |

Back in the house and up the stairway,
there is landing that has a
little work area hidden behind a Japanese screen. A desk faces a
large window that looks down onto the
back
garden. You can work on your computer here - or just hide. Continue up the stairs to the living room which is the entire floor, front to back. This is a sunny and bright L-shaped room. There is a large, comfy sofa that's covered with a faux fur throw and a large glass-topped coffee table, several easy chairs, a decorative fireplace that has a flat-screen TV on the wall above it. Walls are charcoal gray and woodwork is crisp white. Two floor-to-ceiling windows face the street. A modern black leather recliner is in front of a tall bookcase that is filled with many interesting books, mostly art books, that you are welcome to enjoy while you are there. |

The large white en suite bathroom has a long, deep tub with a hand-held shower and there is a separate shower stall as well. A marble counter top has double sinks and there is a bidet. There are two cupboards, one for towels and one for the washer and dryer. A large window looks onto the back garden. | ![]() |

One bedroom has a standard double bed, a sawhorse desk and chair and storage. The owner's son was in residence when we took these photos, but his belongings will be removed before you arrive. This room has an attic ceiling (tall people, beware!) and a Velux window that lets in much light. | ![]() |

The other bedroom has a standard double
bed covered with a duvet.
Storage is built-in. A folding bed is available for a person to
share the room though that would be only for children as the space is
not large. This room, too, has an attic ceiling and a Velux
window. These two bedrooms share a tiled hallway bathroom that has a tub with a hookup shower over the tub. |
