This is a lovely house on an a friendly, busy, urban residential street. On the outside, this house looks like all of the others: a white building with a black door and a short iron fence. It's a tidy and established neighborhood.

Enter through the black door into a welcoming hallway with a wood floor and white walls. The dining room is on the right. It is a large, dramatic and stylish room with three white walls and one wall painted a beautiful charcoal gray. Bright white wood work adds sparkle to the room. There is a decorative fireplace with an iron enclosure and built-in shelves that hold pretty glassware and there is beautiful art on the walls.

The long table comfortably seats 8 diners (in one of our photos the chairs are slip-covered). Interesting art hangs on the walls, some of it by the artist owner. A tall window looks onto the street. Privacy is provided by the original wood shutters.

Double doors open into the bright modern kitchen. It is a very snazzy room that has black marble counter tops, black tile floors, white cupboards with black knobs. This is a cook's kitchen with sophisticated equipment and an atmosphere in which to create great meals.

There is a 5-burner stove, a wall oven, two refrigerators and a freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave. This room, too, has beautiful art on display. A window overlooks the garden.

Down a hallway, a guest powder room is tucked under the stairs. It has the same rich black walls and white fixtures. It's dramatic and crisp.

The garden is lush, green and private. It has an elevated wood deck with teak garden furniture, a dining table and chairs for 6. A small space heater allows you to dine here even when it's chilly. Down 3 steps from the deck is a “sun corner” that gets every bit of sun. It has a built-in bench and cushions for comfort. A small brick area has plants and bushes. A wood trellis is covered with flowering vines. There are many lovely flowering plants, jasmine and lilies, all with wonderful scents.

There is a TV, DVD player, a computer desk with high-speed internet access. A piano waits for you. Bookcases hold many books for you to read while you are there.

Up another level is the master bedroom. It has a king bed and excellent storage. Colors are charcoal, white and silver. There are built-in wardrobes and a beautiful ornate embossed metal chest of drawers from India. The unusual bedside lamps are also from India. Two windows look onto the street scene. Charcoal gray walls, white woodwork.

The white en suite bathroom has a large marble surround tub, a marble countertop with double sinks, a bidet and a shower stall. The owner created much of the art in this room. A large window looks onto the back garden. There are two cupboards, one for towels and one for the washer and dryer.

Two more bedrooms are up another level, the attic level.

London Vacation Rental House Attic Bedroom

One bedroom has a single bed and a double futon, a sawhorse desk and chair and excellent storage. The owner's son was in residence when we took these photos, but his belongings will be removed before you arrive. This room has an attic ceiling (tall people, beware!) and a Velux window that lets in much light.

The other bedroom a single bed covered with a duvet. Storage is built-in. A second bed, a folding bed, is available for a person to share the room. This room is more feminine than the other bedroom on this level. It. too, has an attic ceiling and a Velux window.

Each of these bedrooms has a computer with high-speed internet. These are simple bedrooms, and small, but they are very pleasant and they are immaculate.

These two bedrooms share a tiled hallway bathroom that has a tub with shower over tub.

There is a tenant, a good friend of the owner, in the lower ground floor apartment. It is she who will admit you to the house, show you over the premises and give you your keys.

There are a total of three computers in the house connected to the internet via broadband. The house is a 5-minute walk to pubs, shops, restaurants and Portobello Road (which has a great Saturday street market).

A £350 security deposit is cue in cash on arrival and held until after departure. Heating and electricity are extra, charged at cost by meter readings. Cleaning is included 2 hours per day Monday - Friday. Additional cleaning might be arranged at £10 per hour.
