After his
death in 1767, his grandson,
Francis Kinloch, age 11, inherited the house and the title. He
attended Eton College in England where he saved Admiral Lord
Nelson's son from drowning. Francis married Mildred,
granddaughter of
Thomas Walker, guardian of Thomas Jefferson, and, after she died,
he married Martha, daughter of the governor
of South Carolina. Francis was a secessionist and was captured by
his cousin (also named
Francis) who was serving in the British Army. One Francis became
a member of the Continental Congress, the other inherited the Kinloch
Baronetcy.
